The Manistee City Fire Department was founded in 1873 and moved into its newly built fire station in 1889. It proudly serves the City of Manistee. Presently, the membership of our department consists of nine active members. This membership is represented by one Fire Chief, three Captains, two Driver/Engineers, and three Fire Fighters.
Department equipment in service includes one aerial ladder, one pumper, one medical rescue, one pick-up truck, and a chief's vehicle. Services provided by the Manistee Fire Department include fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention education, and building inspections.
Emergency medical service provides pre-transport care with transport provided by West Shore Hospital Ambulance Service.
The Department has mutual aid pacts with Filer Charter Township and Manistee Township Fire Departments. This allows us to call for extra equipment and manpower when the need arises. We also reciprocate the service.
We welcome people to tour the fire station seven days a week between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except during mealtimes and emergencies.
The fire station is listed on the State of Michigan Historic Register as being the oldest continuously manned fire station in the state.
